We all deserve to play, but most playgrounds aren't designed for everyone. Austin’s parks, even those with ADA-accessible playgrounds, fall short of being truly inclusive. This gap leaves children and caregivers on the sidelines, unable to participate in the essential activity of play. The All Abilities Playground project brings together groups to create Austin's first sustainable, inclusive playground - The All Abilities Playground at Onion Creek Metropolitan Park. The design team at TBG synthesized extensive feedback from experts and focus groups in the accessibility community to generate a set of planning principles that will drive the design of the park overall.

Austin will set a new standard in playground design with the All Abilities Playground at Onion Creek Metropolitan Park. This project, driven by public feedback, expands inclusivity beyond accessible design by involving the community in every planning and design step. The nature-inspired plan features sensory-friendly zones, adaptive equipment, and accessible pathways, ensuring children and families of all abilities can play, explore, and connect. This park aims to strengthen community bonds and provide a welcoming space for all.
