Please Use Crosswalks
July 22, 2026
We’ve noticed an increase in residents cutting across roadways outside of designated crossing areas. While taking a shortcut might save a few seconds, jaywalking creates serious safety risks for pedestrians and drivers alike.
Why Using Crosswalks Matters
Better Visibility: Marked crosswalks are strategically placed where drivers naturally expect pedestrians to step into the street.
Predictable Traffic Flow: Using designated signals gives oncoming drivers adequate time to slow down and stop safely.
Setting a Good Example: Kids and young visitors watch how adults navigate the neighborhood—let's model safe habits for them!
Quick Reminders
Stick to the Markings: Always cross at marked intersections or dedicated pedestrian crosswalks.
Make Eye Contact: Before stepping into the road, pause and make sure drivers see you—even if you have the right-of-way.
Unplug While Crossing: Keep your eyes and ears open! Pause music or phone calls for just a moment while crossing the street.
